As one Congolese woman put it:

"You talk [of] a better planet, but our children are dying for your green energy”

And a Congolese man remarked:

"None of the affected Congolese workers will ever be able to buy or drive an electric car”.

While mining companies make fortunes, 7 out of 10 Congolese people live on less than $2 per day, and “artisanal” miners are risking their lives to obtain a meagre living from the riches of their country. The inequalities, human rights abuses and bare-faced greed of multinational companies live on in the DRC in 2022, fuelled by European and American consumers’ expectations that their way of life can continue as before, at a time of climate change.

To ensure Justice  for the people of DRC, the  document, the Mapping Report deals with atrocities committed in the First & Second Congo Wars of October 1996/May 1997, and August 1998/July 2003.

This Report already contains details of 617 alleged violence incidents. It is estimated that more than 10 million people had been killed in DRC alone. Even though it has been confirmed worldwide that the conflict in DRC has been the world’s bloodiest since World War II, and there is a plan of action on these appalling issues at the United Nations, however no action has been taken to ensure Justice and prevent further atrocities.

The United Nations should also publish its recent (leaked) report on the killings and destabilization taking place right now, as a result of Rwanda’s support of its proxy the M23 militia in Eastern DRC.
