It has come to light that faith leaders, particularly Catholic clergies in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have been facing backlash from the authorities.
The Justice Congo Group has reported numerous instances where these leaders who dare to criticize the government are targeted for their advocacy in the DRC, these clergy members are seen as a direct link to the concerns of the Congolese people, serving as their voice in times of turmoil. The Justice Congo Group echoes the worries surrounding the security situation in South Kivu and the nation at large, highlighting the precarious state of affairs. Interestingly, the Justice Congo Group collaborates closely with various social movements within the DRC, encompassing a diverse array of institutions such as non-profits, civil society organizations, voluntary groups, third sector entities, social economy cooperatives, and numerous NGOs.
These organizations span a wide spectrum, ranging from churches, hospitals, and universities to social clubs, professional associations, community groups, health facilities, environmental organizations, trauma counselling centres, human rights bodies, community associations, and various other entities operating in the region.
